October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic violence touches the lives of Americans of all ages, leaving a devastating impact on women, men, and children of every background and circumstance. The intent of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is to connect advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. A range of activities to recognize this month are conducted at the local, state, and national levels.

Native American women experience the highest rate of violence of any group in the United States. A report released by the Department of Justice, American Indians and Crime, found that Native American women suffer violent crime at a rate three and a half times greater than the national average. DVAM will help to raise awareness in all communities about the impact of domestic violence and other forms of violence on families and individuals.
